The Paving Process: Do It Yourself?

Let's talk about paving! We all know and love the finished look of a freshly paved area, that is if it has been prepared and laid correctly. It is important to remember that the preparation of a paved area is just as important as the actual laying of the pavers themselves. Read on for a quick 'DIY' paving guide, should you dare:

Step 1: Excavate the area you would like paved, digging a depth of 150-180mm deeper than the finished paving height. Try your best to keep the base as level as possible and be sure to remove any large rubble whilst digging.

Step 2: Install and compact a 30-50mm layer of crushed rock over the area with a plate compactor, enabling you to create a firm base for your paving foundation.

Step 3: Install a 100mm re-enforced concrete slab.

Step 4: Lay the pavers! Be sure to use the correct consistency of mortar as well as applying tile adhesive to the base of each paver for additional bonding strength. It is important to take your time with this stage, ensuring every paver is levelled perfectly as this will impact the result. Once laid, leave your pavers to set for a couple of days before grouting.

Step 5: Scrap all the above and call Wilson Landscaping to do it all for you. If paving does not sound like a DIY project you would like to attempt, leave it to the experts to get it completed for you in record time.
